A Chardonnay from this Martinborough producer who are well known for their Pinot Noir (it being Martinborough) but which I have long considered to be an excellent maker of white wines – as well. It was around this time that I perceived a change in Dry River wines – with the Chardonnay taking on more weight and richness. Maybe culminating in the 2020 Chardonnay which was a blockbuster. This wine has seen ten years in bottle and should be in a peak drinking window\u2026<\/p>\n
A bright, pale straw colour in the glass. The perfume is delicate, soft and ripe. Nectarine, pear, lemon, grapefruit and quince fruits, with layers of tarragon, danish pastry, cashew nut and orange blossom. The depth is evident but keeps elegance and drive intact. Acidity is as important as the lick of tasty oak, but probably trumped by the texture, which is creamy and plush. Balanced and lengthy throughout, the finish arrives with a touch of lees-influenced nuttiness. Something for everyone here. 95pts<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
