Mills Reef was founded in 1989 and became known for their reds from the Gimblett Gravels region as well as building a strong reputation for their Chardonnay – especially the Elspeth bottling. The grapes for this were sourced from the well-known Riverview Vineyard in the Maraekakaho district. A deep straw-gold colour in the glass. Equally deep and golden aromas of peach, pear, lemon, grapefruit and pineapple with brazil nut and butterscotch. The palate is more citrus focussed, with plenty of acidity still pulsing through the middle. Fruit has a brim of toasty oak and the palate fattens out at the back with a silky texture.
