A French wine from the Montagne-Saint-\u00c9milion region, produced by the Edmond de Rothschild Heritage estate, who are linked to New Zealand through their estates at Akarua in Bannockburn and Rimapare in Marlborough. This wine is named ‘Eve’, one of Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild’s four daughters. Eve is thus associated with the revival of Ch\u00e2teau de Malengin, whose origins date back to 1330. The wine is 100% Merlot – but contrary to the Bordeaux tradition of barrel ageing, it is matured in amphoras for twelve months. A bright aroma of red plum, blackcurrant, cherry and raspberry gives a very modern spin on Bordeaux, and this continues into the palate. Quite juicy and crunchy with a fruit-forward immediacy with a focus on the crisp acidity and just some fine, chalky tannin to add structure.
