A Chardonnay made in the Waikato – at Takapoto\u2019s winery near Lake Karapiro, from grapes harvested at Gimblett Road in Hawke\u2019s Bay. Area medium-density golden colour in the glass, tinged with green. The bouquet is very varietal, with power-packed aromas of peach, lemon, grapefruit, hazelnut, quince and vanilla paste. Led by a keen acidity, the palate shows a decent whack of toasty oak as well, with the ripe fruit coming along for the ride. Bold, unctuous and broad through the palate. Layers of spice, white pepper and citrus pith flavours hint at some lees-influenced ageing (this 2022 is the new\/current release).
