Chambourcin is a rarity in New Zealand – I find it hard to place other than it seeming \u2018french\u2019 in style, taking in some style of Bordeaux, Rh\u00f4ne and Burgundy varietals. A dark, dense brick red in the glass. A bright perfume with blackberry, plum, cherry, black pepper, liquorice and root beer on the nose. Some sweet and spicy oak shows immediately on the palate, and the tannins are both fine but also have a firm grip. Bold and juicy, with an earthy, savoury layer unfurling mid-palate.
